Hono Ki Te Ora acts as the referral pathway for mental health and wellbeing referrals for young people in Queenstown, Wānaka and the wider Central Otago region. We welcome referrals from any source — GP, school, social worker, family member, or self-referral. There is no wrong door.

Who we support

Children/Tamariki 5–12 years

Children experiencing mental health, developmental, behavioural or emotional challenges, and their whānau.

Youth/Rangatahi 13–17 years

Young people experiencing mental health, substance misuse and addiction or wellbeing challenges — including those transitioning between services.

Young adults 18–24 years

Those navigating adult mental health pathways, including those with complex or co-existing needs.

What happens after a referral

Referral received

We acknowledge receipt of your referral within one business day.

Triage & planning

Our Intake Clinician determines the most appropriate pathway and coordinates with specialist services if needed.

Guide contact

A Guide makes contact with the child or young person and/or whānau to listen and understand their situation.

Feedback to you

We keep you informed of progress and outcomes, with your permission and the client's consent.

Working better together

Hono Ki Te Ora is built around the principle of strong interagency collaboration. We actively participate in interagency hui, share relevant information (with consent), and work to reduce the burden of navigating a complex system on young people and their whānau.
